This 3-day workshop is for anyone interested in assisting women and their families to have a satisfying birth experience. We will use text and supplementary literature, videos, slides, small group activities, hands on practice, role play to develop practical skills as a Doula. This workshop constitutes one step in the process to become a DONA International certified Doula.

About Julie Julie Thompson, CD(DONA) is the mother of 4 and has been married for 33 years. She has been a certified Doula and has been on the certification committee since February 1997. Julie has taught child birth Education at Warren General Hospital since 2003, and has taught DONA workshops internationally. She is certified in Pregnancy Massage, Infant Massage, and is a Post Partum Doula. Julie does massages, acupressure, and reflexology out of her home. She has trained with Penny Simkin PT, Kathy McGrath, About the Workshop Trainer and Polly Perez.

Doula Workshop Agenda Friday (Day 1) 7:45 am – 4:30 pm -Registration & Introduction -Intro to Childbirth Education Saturday (Day 2) 8:00 am – 5:00 pm -Introduction to Labour -Prenatal Contact between Doula and Client -Emotional Support in Labour -Comfort Measures -Introduction to DONA International Sunday (Day 3) 8:00 am – 6:15 pm -What is the Ideal Birth -Difficult Labours -Cesarean Birth and VBAC -The Newborn and Breastfeeding -PP contact between Doula and Client -Role Modeling and Role Play of Labour Early registration is encouraged due to the popularity of this workshop and limited space. Registration will close by 28 February 2012 .

Getting There and Parking There is a reliable train service from Brisbane to Ipswich and the workshop venue is 2 blocks from the Ipswich train station. If you are travelling by car, parking is available in the Woolworths carpark under the Ipswich Mall or street parking is available on Darling Street East (There’s a tunnel connecting this road to Brisbane Street) or over the River at Riverlink (You can walk through to the Top of Town precinct via the pedestrian bridge, 10 minutes).
