After a full day, I know we all function better if we have some downtime the next day. I wouldn’t expect my children to be the epitome of angelic behaviour in the supermarket the day after being at Southbank for a whole day and wouldn’t expect myself to be the most patient when I’m tired and out of sync with everyone around me. And yet, it feels like others expect that from me, all the [...]

Most people do not take into consideration how different models of care may impact on their perceived needs let alone their physiological needs in birth. Decisions about where to have a baby are often influenced by what friends and family feel safe with before a couple looks into further information about birth. [...]

I used to love going to Janette’s shop on a Friday night when it was at her Harlin Road house. You’d walk in and be greeted by a big smile, and lots of lovely, relaxed people enjoying some craft, a glass of wine and a good ole gas bag. The first Twilight Trading event at the new venue is this Friday night, 25 November and I am delighted to be invited to have my work featured on the night. [...]

If a baby’s treatment requires newer technology or more intensive care, they need to be transferred to the larger hospitals but in many cases, babies could stay at Ipswich if the equipment was available in Ipswich (ie. sometimes it’s not a matter of more intensive care but just having the right equipment). Being able to keep babies closer to home is important, especially when parents may live outside of Ipswich city. A drive to the Mater from some country areas involves a 4 hour round trip. This means extra costs for families who’s babies may need more specialised care and [...]
